Welcome!

Greetings, friend, and welcome to The Alemongery, my little brewery on the web. Through this forum, I hope to raise interest in the art and science of Zymurgy, or the brewing of beer. I've been a homebrewer for about ten years now (with a hiatus or two along the way), so while I know that I bring valuable experience to the proverbial table, I also recognize that there are many, many homebrewers out there who have vastly more knowledge than I. It is my hope that this forum becomes a place where all will come to learn, to teach, and to share their thoughts and wisdom on homebrewing. I, for one, am as an empty mug yearning to be filled with beery goodness!

As I said, I've been brewing at home for most of a decade, when I wasn't on the move across the country or anticipating such a move. Though I've made some wine and meade, my concentration has been beer thus far. Like many, I started out with a small mass-market kit, namely the Mr. Beer Premium Gold Edition Home Brew Kit. I bottled my first few batches in 12 oz. Dasani water bottles, which actually worked surprisingly well. Out of convenience, I used the water from those bottles when cooking the wort for the beer. Once I realized the limitations of the Mr. Beer system, I upgraded to a five-gallon fermentation system, and eventually added glass carboys to facilitate secondary fermentation, as well as multiple batches running concurrently.

I generally prefer dry wines and strong hoppy ales, however I have made quite a few fruit beers, including one with pumkin and one with Jalapeno. Over time, I will post my recipes here for your consideration, and I hope others will do the same.

Happy brewing!
